Here’s the lineup of RiverFest 2018 events in Saxonville this Saturday, June 16:
Sudbury River canoe paddle, 8 to 10 am. Learn about the history of the river and current threats from invasive plants. Led by Ron Chick, chair of Friends of Saxonville’s River Stewards Initiative. Bring a canoe or reserve one by emailing ronchick@comcast.net.
Saxonville Historical Walking Tours, 9 am or 4 pm. Jennifer Doherty, Historic Preservation Planner with the Framingham Historical Commission, on a one-hour walking tour of Saxonville. RSVP at 508-532-5455. Meet at the old Danforth Street Bridge.
** Saxonville Falls to Floodgates Walking Tour**, 11 am to 12:30 pm. Kevin Swope, author of “The Xaxonville Mills,” leads this look at the Saxonville flood control gates and levee. Visitors will walk up stairs onto the levee embankment, down a grassy slope to the Mills parking lot, and down stairs to view Saxonville Falls from under the Central Street Bridge. Participants should wear sturdy, non-slip footware and bring water and sunscreen. Meet at the Saxonville Fire Station on Watson Place (park in the adjacent mills lot to the left). ** Cochituate Brook Trail Walk**, 1 to 3 pm. Participants will walk along Cochituate Brook Trail to Lake Cochituate and learn some history and info about the area. The walk will include grassy and wooded areas. Participants should wear sturdy, non-slip footware, and bring water, sunscreen, and mosquito/tick repellent.
** City Councilor Pam Richardson office hours**, 10 am to noon. In conjunction with RiverFest, District 2 Councilor Pam Richardson will hold office hours at One School St. in Saxonville, near the Cochituate Rail Trail entrance. No appointment needed.
