Framingham Covid-19 Levels Drop Again

Framingham’s known new Covid-19 infections dropped again this week, according to data released today by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The city’s rate dropped to 41 per 100,000 with a positivity of 4.58% – below 5% for the first time since Thanksgiving weekend. The state-wide average was 48.9 per 100K and 4.32% positivity.

The number of tests administered over the last 14-day period dipped 1.3%, but known cases dropped much more: 15.9%.

Framingham remains in the state’s red zone, however. And, at 574 total cases per 100,000 residents over the past 14 days, the city is also considerably higher than the CDC’s 200 per 100K “highest risk of transmission in schools” level. (The 4.58% positivity is lower risk, though.)

MWRA wastewater tests

After a strange spike in wastewater virus levels last week in the South region, which includes Framingham, tests showed a dramatic decline this week.

Wastewater testing is often considered a leading indictor of infections, since people can shed virus before they have symptoms or get tested.

Please see the MWRA site for more info on the data.
