Ricky Finlay Appointed to District 2 School Committee Seat

Ricky Finlay has been named to fill the Framingham District 2 School Committee seat, which became vacant after the passing of Karen Foran Dempsey in December. Finlay had been the district’s representative before running for District 2 City Council in 2019.

“I want to send out a huge congrats to Ricky Finlay for getting elected tonight at our joint meeting between the School Committee and City Council to fulfill my sister’s School Committee seat,” City Councilor-at-Large Janet Leombruno posted on Facebook. “We know you will carry forward your shared mission of equality and access for everyone, she would be pleased, and would be expecting no less.”

Four residents had applied for the spot.

Finlay received 11 votes; David Gordon, 7; and Kelly Garofalo. 1, the Framingham Patch reported. District 2 City Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales voted for Gordon, director of finance & operations at Tenacre Country Day School who has held other financial management positions at Boston-area public school systems.

Finlay’s appointment runs through city elections in November.
