Framingham Covid-19 Rates Tick Up But Still Low

Framingham’s daily rate of known new Covid-19 infections ticked up in the last 14 days versus the previous week’s similar period, but the city’s rate was still a low 1.5 cases per 100K population, according to data released today by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Test positivity stood at 0.54%.

Number of tests rose for the first time since April.

The city’s rate of known new Covid-19 infections is now lower than some surrounding towns. Natick, for example, has a known case rate more than double Framingham’s, at 3.2 per 100K vs. Framingham’s 1.5. Natick’s positivity was higher as well, at 1.1%. Sudbury’s case rate was reported at 2 per 100K, with a comparable test positivity of 0.58%. (My theory on this is that people in wealthier communities may be more likely to travel outside of the region for summer vacation, and so probably have a higher exposure to people in areas with lower vaccination rates. If so, that could eventually even out as locals mingle. But I have zero data to back that up.)

65.6%of all Framingham residents are now fully vaccinated (that’s among all residents, not just those 12 and older who are eligible); 73.3% have at least one dose.
