Framingham’s rate of daily known new Covid-19 cases rose to 7.3 per 100K people over the most recent 14 days, according to data released today by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. While testing also increased, the number of cases in the last 2 weeks jumped 73% vs the prior week’s period, while tests administered only rose 11%.
Not surprisingly, test positivity also increased, from 1.3% a week ago to 2.14% this week. While that’s all still much lower than peaks earlier this year, it’s not an encouraging trend – although one that’s playing out across most of Massachusetts.
The statewide average rate of new cases was 8.5 per 100K vs Framingham’s 7.3. Statewide test positivity was 2.11%, about the same as Framingham’s.
The city yesterday announced 40 known new cases over the last seven days. That’s a rate of roughly 53.8 cases per 100K over seven days. The CDC considers rates from 50 to 99 per 100K to be “substantial” transmission regardless of positivity. “Substantial” and “high” transmission areas are covered under the new CDC guidelines that everyone should wear masks in indoor public places regardless of vaccination status.
All Massachusetts counties are now classified as either substantial or high (over 100 cases per 100K) transmission except for Franklin and Hampshire.
