Framingham’s rate of daily known new Covid-19 cases hit 77.2 per 100,000 – the highest it’s been in more than a year. That’s according to data released today by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the most recent 14-day period.
And yet that’s still below the state-wide average of 83 per 100K.
The number of tests administered to city residents in the most recent period was a bit higher than during last December’s peak, but not by that much.
Test positivity rose again to 7.5% vs 6% last week.
Almost 75% of city residents are now “fully vaccinated”, but that’s still defined as two mRNA doses or one J&J. Many experts say an additional “booster” dose is important to fend off the latest Omicron variant. Only 28.4% of city residents have received the booster, according to Massachusetts DPH data. That’s up from 26.2% last week, which was the first time the state included booster data in its municipal vaccination report.
MWRA Wastewater Tests
MWRA wastewater tests for Covid-19 virus traces are showing a large increase. Such tests are considered a good leading indicator of future Covid-19 cases because people often shed virus before knowing they’re infected. In addition, these samples don’t depend on how many tests have been administered to individuals.
