Framingham’s rate of known new Covid-19 cases and test positivity both rose for the 7th straight week, according to data released today by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The daily rate of known new cases rose to 30.2 per 100,000 population. That’s for the 2-week period ending April 30. The prior period was 27.2.
Because so many people are home testing with results not included in official PCR testing data, the number of cases known to residents is higher than that. Experts say looking at positivity rates is one way to discover community transmissions trends. The PCR test positivity for Framingham residents was 5.8% in the most recent period, up from 5.42% the prior week. The World Health Organization recommends that positivity be below 5% in order to adequately measure prevalence of infection.
Number of tests administered to city residents was up 0.7% while number of cases rose 11.3%.
